Fun Facts about these Owls:

• The Eastern Screech Owl can turn its head 270 degrees and have asymmetrical ear openings with one ear is higher than the other to help them pinpoint sound.  Also, these owls are opportunistic eaters. If they think they can eat it, they will try!
• The Great Horned Owl has many symbolic meanings across cultures, including wisdom, protection, and the afterlife. Some tribes in the Sierra Nevada believe that the Great Horned Owl will capture the souls of the dead and carry them to the underworld. 
• Barred Owls are sometimes called “Old Eight-Hooter” because of their famous call, which is often described as “Who cooks for you, who cooks for you all”.   They typically have a home territory of about 700 acres and are skilled hunters that can attack prey that are much heavier than themselves.
